Opetion to compile everything during install

Post by 9a3eedi » Mon Jun 18, 2007 19:11

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understood Sabayon has precompiled binaries inside its CD/DVD and when installing, it doesn't compile the packages, but merely installs the binary packages.

Now is it possible to modify the installer so that it gives the choice for the user to compile everything from source rather than install the binaries, just like how Gentoo works? and in the end it looks and feels just like the normal Sabayon installation.

Just wondering/suggesting....

I'd guess the way to go would be to install; adjust your make.conf; update portage etc; then rebuild world. Bear in mind that this takes time... I could take a two-week holiday and it still wouldn't have
finished on my bag-of-bolts :D

[EDIT]
Sorry, I see this is in the 'suggestions' forum. It would be even a longer haul if you were to
do it all from cd/dvd !
