make ntfs3g to work with national characters...?

Postby Majamee » Wed Mar 21, 2007 13:24

Hello!

I came to SabayonLinux by reading the Changelog of 3.3. I was amazed, because of all the good ideas included. Especially the preconfigured ntfs3g implementation was the reason for me to use it.
But I've the problem that national characters (öäüß) are not working. Files including such a character aren't shown and I'm unable to create a file on ntfs which includes one of them.
So is it able for the next release to configure ntfs3g by the localization settings? So that you choose for example german as your system language and that the settings for ntfs3g is changed in the adequate way?
Could this be implemented for the next version? It would be great! ;)

Can anyone please help me to fix this problem by providing me a tutorial. I'm not able to fix it myself, because it's my first Gentoo based distri and for that I'm not yet common with it.

Greetings,

Hm... weird it worked for me out of the box (Danish characters).
Anyway, maybe this will help: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_NTFS_write ... Ffstab_.29:

Thank you for this site. I will try it and post my results later.
Could you please try if you could create a file under ntfs with a few Danish characters as name?
Does it work?
Could you please post how your etc/fstab looks like?

I have just checked: I can still create files with Danish characters as a name, so far so good... :)
Here is my fstab (it's edited but only to set the permissions I wanted, no locale stuff as you can see):
Code: Select all
/dev/sda5               /                       ext3    defaults,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/sda1               /boot                   ext2    defaults        1 2
/dev/sda6               /home                   ext3    defaults,user_xattr 1 2
/dev/sda2               swap                    swap    defaults        0 0
/dev/sda4      /mnt/Windows      ntfs-3g   defaults,uid=1000,gid=100,umask=037   0 0
tmpfs                   /dev/shm                tmpfs   defaults        0 0
