The way Beryl is loaded should be changed to the v3.20 way..

Postby AmpLiF1eR » Sat Jan 06, 2007 0:10

Hi,

I think the boot up of Sabayon was much nicer in v3.20 regarding Beryl because Beryl was loaded before the desktop was loaded and now it's the other way around which looks bad if the screen is doing strange when loading (even if it's just for 3 seconds).
just my 2 cents:)

Yeah... it does look a little odd... but 3.25 is very nice beryl wise ... shame it ate my settings ... :P

oh ... Johnnyhay ... if you aren't running beryl that prolly explains why netbeans works for you ... there is a clash between beryl and netbeans (see our other conversation - the export AWT_Toolkit thing).

hahaa. You're soooo funny man!
How did you know where to find me.
hahaha.

Oh yeah, and that's right. I don't have beryl running unless I want to show my friends.
For me, it's a little bit to buggy to maintain.

I downgraded to sab 3.2 with beryl v0.1.3-r1 (upgraded from beryl v0.1.2).

Beryl is stable as hell and doesn't crash ever.. not even once... so I can have it enabled 24/7 like a normal feature.

Really, beryl v0.1.4 sucks :)

I have to disagree, beryl 0.1.4 works absolutely perfectly with me and we work closely with the developers of the beryl project to ensure good SL integration, so expect to see better things with beryl in 3.3, which I believe will be using the 0.2.0 milestone release

ok.... but don't get me wrong on this... beryl 0.1.4 is great when it's running, it's just that I (and a few others) experienced Beryl 0.1.4 to shut down at start so it must be restarted manually which I have never seen before with their previous releases. After it's manually restarted, the problem is gone the whole session till the next reboot.

It's nice to know that you're binding forces, that gives some advantages :p

This is a guess as to why some people are having better luck that others. I have the impression that beryl-manager and beryl are sensitive to the timing with which various things load. I would wonder if people with faster machines are more likely to have everything load correctly.

you are correct in your observation in that its sensitive, but its not about the machine, it just needs to be set up better, like I said, we're working more on getting it to be better integrated ;)

well on that subject, i've noticed that sometimes it starts of it's own accord when logging in (ie into a user session) and sometimes it does not ... can't seem to make out rhym or reason on that one.

cheers
