Pckage Manager for Sabayon

Post by alfa » Fri Jan 05, 2007 12:39

I installed 3.25 yesterday and everything looks fine only kuroo still in a deadend state (useless).
Obviously, having a good GUI-PKG-MGR is one of the basic things that make a distro attractive to the public. In Sabayon's case all what's needed is a nice GUI (the pkg mgr, portage, is already there).
Before starting anything I need to ask first if any of the developers is working (or will work) on a new GuiPkgMgr for Sabayon?

emerge is what gentoo users prefer and once you get use to it, you don't want anything else.

emerge -C kuroo

learn and use emerge -- it's a wonderful tool.

1- You are not answering my question.
2- You can't impose your preferences on others. If all people can use the command line then no will need a DE like KDE or GNOME and no one will use windows.
3- I'm just asking before I start developing something by my self, I'm NOT asking what to do because kuroo doesn't work. So please let's stick to the subject.

I didn't impose - I merely said emerge is the preferred, it's where all the power is.

Then I will wait for the founder of Sabayon and his team to decide what to do.

Cheers.

jump into IRC and try to catch them - they are always interested in those that can program or email cvill64 - they have a irc channel for those interested in developing too.

on the oftc net ; if you want to get involved with developing the channel is:
#sabayon-dev-help

NOTE:
#sabayon-dev is locked ; you cannot just join it.

:-) and I for one really like your suggestion.something very like kuroo;
but NOT kde-dependant would be right up my alley.

I am determined to improve Kuroo. I believe developing another package manager from the ground up is redundant, 98% of the issues with Kuroo are due to the using beta over stable and not having portage or world correctly configured.

Please be patient... we are looking for good python programmers that could help with entropy project.
