Powered by... (laptop label / case badge) [Solved]

Post by bowenit » Tue Apr 22, 2008 20:55

How about a powered by Sabayon Linux sticker, plate, etc... for system builders, similar to Windows variants. I will make one (Graphic wise) and upload it when I figure out how. Also while I'm on the subject is there / how do I become an "Official Sabayon System Builder"?

Oh, I see your point. :D

Well, Windows users are the ones who really need those stickers. Microsoft dictates people how much hardware to buy in order for the system to run well. In what is destined to be the most rediculous policy, Microsoft forces users to buy special hardware to please the operating system, instead of making their operating system to fit on hardware and please the user. So, the poor users need a special sign to know if their God will accept the hardware they are going to buy. 8) It comes out from that Microsoft holds contracts with major hardware vendors, and they work together to strip money from users and from each other, mua-ha-ha. :D

While I'm sure that M$ ensures that it makes money from the "Powered by...." however in the USA I have some potential users who demand flair, in other words the "Powered by...." stickers. Besides if you take your rig to a LAN party can you imagine the conversation starter?

Well, a number of vendors sell PC case badges with Tux and/or "Linux Inside" or "Powered by Linux":

I'm sure Google will throw up a lot more.

And someone recently wrote to Linux Format magazine suggesting they include a sheet of Linux Inside stickers with an issue. Maybe they'll do it, so keep an eye open.

I got some nice 'Ubuntu Inside' stickers for one of my laptops from The Linux Emporium for the price of a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The PCLinuxOS sticker is nice too:

It would be a nice idea to have Sabayon stickers. If you wish to make one, you need to make the "master" mock-up in vector format. Vector because it is, in addition to flexibility, the most suited format for printing. Working at a publishing agency, I am completely self-confident to state that.

The size would be 2 x 2.5 cm or 2.5 x 4 cm. Try to use "pure" colors (i.e. CMYK 100-0-0-0, 0-100-0-0, 0-0-100-0, 0-0-0-100) or other CMYK compound of values like 10, 20, 30, 40, etc., do not use alpha-channel transparency. That's all the requirements. :D

I have just sent the following e-mail to CafePress, the company that hosts the SL Shop, to enquire if they would consider making and selling 'Powered By' laptop stickers for SL. At the moment they only sell large stickers (3" x 5" rectangular or oval, and 3" x 10" rectangular) which is not your typical case sticker.
I was wondering whether you could sell laptop stickers for Sabayon Linux? The sort of thing I'm thinking of is rather like the laptop sticker for Fedora Linux shown in the following picture: http://www.linuxpusher.dk/images/sticker-fedora.jpg

Laptop stickers are usually around 2.5 cm high by 1.8 cm wide. The Sabayon Linux logo would be the one here: http://www.sabayonlinux.org/sabayon/pre ... w-only.png and the font would be the Sabayon Linux standard font which is Entangled Plain BRK which you can download from the following Web page: http://www.abstractfonts.com/search/entangled

These laptop stickers are usually made of thin vinyl so that they do not touch the LCD screen when the laptop is closed. They can of course be affixed to desktop PCs too, not just laptops.

Laptop stickers for various Linux distributions are sold by several Web shops, but I cannot find one for Sabayon Linux. It would be cool if you guys could sell these (in fact laptop stickers for all the other Linux distributions for which you also have stores).

The October issue of Linux format has Sabayon 3.5 pod on the DVD that comes with it, and also has stickers for 15+ distros and programs like gimp and thunderbird. It came with our subscription, I'm not sure if the one you purchase on the stands has the stickers. One more reason to subscribe to a great magazine and help support the Linux community! The stickers even say "Powered by"!
