Ive had that problem I think,
try removing .asoundrc
if that works theres something wrong with pulseaudio

hey dude the reason kde asks you is because your not using that particular part of your soundcard, even if you are you can tell it to not ask you again. your sound problems seem like pulseaudio has been setup wrong, I had some interesting problems when upgrading pulseaudio with some of the settings ...

As far as I know pulseaudio can't restart itself and it is also run as user, Thanks for pointing that out for the the command Ill make an edit and be clearer. My guess is pulseaudio is being started twice?? or from my googling, its starting too late or too early otherwise I'm making the guess pulsea...

Hey was wondering if its fesable(and how fesable) to have (I think its called) binary patching so instead of downloading the whole file. for example lets say amarok, would only download the changed parts and would patch the existing binary much like yum does now. can you please tell me if your using kde or gnome??? This is an easy way to check sound(the way i do it most of the time) is emerge pavcontrol - volumecontrol for pulseaudio so you can see if any audio is actually being played via the graphical sound meter check youve got the latest version of pulse...
