Re: Some Windows applications make Grub2 unbootable

Reading through the bug report, it sounds like there might be a couple of Windows programs that are clobbering Grub. Since nobody is managing that area down in the boot sector (there's obviously no file system to indicate who's claiming which sectors), I wonder how these applications keep from clobb...

Re: Google voice chat [Solved]

I'll have a look at getting an ebuild in the overlay this week. Everything is probably OK, but I was slightly worried about publishing a binary release without any information whatsoever regarding the license. This is slightly odd for a company as big and professional as Google to release a piece of...

Re: Poor performance (unresponsive, pausing, stuttering etc.

You haven't missed much by avoiding 2.6.35 so far. Kernel.org is already on their 4th patch set for this kernel. There was a patch to address a security vulnerability. Then two patches to address the mess that was created by the fix for the vulnerability (as well as some other issues). I've been get...

Re: Poor performance (unresponsive, pausing, stuttering etc.

OK, you inspired me. I've made up a 2.6.35.4 linux-sabayon kernel that uses the 11 patch set refered to by Mathieu Desnoyers. They applied cleanly, and I'm running an amd64 kernel with those patches now (no segfaults in dmesg yet :D ) I can't tell much on this computer. I've never really had latency...

Re: Poor performance (unresponsive, pausing, stuttering etc.

Have you noticed any difference with the Sabayon 2.6.35 kernel.

The raise-the-bar-to-PAGEOUT_IO_SYNC-stalls patch seemed to make a difference for me.

Re: ZFS Port to Linux ( all versions)

Thanks for the links. Those were interesting reads.

Maybe I shouldn't be so quick to criticize their awkward and secretive method for releasing this code. They've certainly infused the process with a lot of drama to capture peoples attention.

If your computer can boot from a USB, our DAILYs have been working pretty well with unetbootin.

Re: looking for "how-to" for installing oracle-xe 10g

Thinking about it, I guess it's been a while since I've played with Oracle-db. VMs weren't very available in the open source world then. A VM would have been nice for containerizing the installation in it's own space. Glad to see Oracle-db is becoming more approachable for people who want to get som...

Re: Sabayon 5.3 KDE installer crash, grub/parition problem.

I was also wondering if the issue wasn't somehow due to extended partitions.

I often install into my extended partitions, so I know it's possible. But we may have picked up a regression or ran into a new combination that is confusing the installer.

Re: looking for "how-to" for installing oracle-xe 10g

Lol @lmgtfy.com :) I saw several helpful links there. I installed Oracle on my Mandrake box a few years back. I won't tell you that you can't install Oracle just to play with it (I've done it and so have many others), but Oracle is a very heavy-weight application, and they make no apologies about be...
