Re: Something's broken - Repairing the system

For sabutil to give you any helpful information, you'll want to run it from within a chroot on your hard disk partition (after booting from the LiveCD/DVD/USB, and setting up a chroot to the hard disk installation). The sabutil script is just a short list of commands that dumps out information that ...

Re: [SOLVED] Sabayon 5.3 KDE installer crash/partition probl

We concentrate our effort on the Gnome and KDE versions. The E17 spin is fairly experimental. But now that you know how to put it on a USB, you can make your own decision. :) AFAIK, lilo should work just fine with Sabayon. Although, I don't think there are any tools to auto-configure lilo for you in...

Re: Kernel update 2.6.35-r4 broke my ability to compile modu

Hhhhmmm, now that I look closer, I don't have a /usr/src/linux/build/ directory either.

And I build all my kernels from source. :?

Have you looked for a RTL8192SE ebuild?

Thanks for taking the time to work through the problem on the Forum. If your having this problem, there's always a chance other people are having the same problem. By seeing where you're running into trouble, sometimes we can find a way to make the process easier. Or at least the issue is documented...

Re: Google voice chat [Solved]

I've used the ebuild provided by Wolden's link above to add an ebuild to the Sabayon overlay for www-plugins/google-talkplugin-1.4.1.0.1 I'm leaving the license as "Unknown" at this time. I've tried to research the license status, and I can see several discussions on Googles chat pages for Google Ta...

Re: Sabayon XFCE - Wireless Manager?

I'd suggest installing wicd (equo will do it faster than 'emerge').

Wicd has a fairly good reputation for being a lightweight network configuration tool for wireless.

Using nm-applet (which will also pull in networkmanager) is also a good solution.

Re: Mixed network setup - WinXP Pro/Linux? [Solved]

I'm pretty sure we don't want Samba starting by default until the user understands what Samba is and does some configuration. We have many people who install Sabayon on laptops, etc., and they may or may not know what Samba is. I can't think of a meaningful default configuration that would make sens...

Re: Poor performance (unresponsive, pausing, stuttering etc.

I spoke too soon about having tested the 11 patch Efficios patch set.

I misunderstood the method for enabling the patch set once the kernel is built. I'm rebuilding my patched kernels now with CONFIG_DEBUG_FS=y so I can manually poke my kernel to engage the patches.

Re: need a copy of package.keywords

Your /etc/portage/package.keywords file? That's going to be fairly customized for anybody who isn't running with "~". If you're running either "~x86" or "~amd64" in your make.conf, I'm not sure why you'd need package.keywords. Also, you can have a look at the " HOWTO: Switch from Test to Stable Pack...
