Re: problems emerging portage

well first off, check to make sure you have a valid symlink, and if you do, try emerge --sync to rebuild your portage tree. If you don't, be sure to try and fix it - assuming you're on x86, your symlink should point to ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2007.0/ (starting in /etc).

Re: Sabayon 3.4e, Windows games & Direct X

try running the Thomas cd in compatibility mode with 95/98 under winecfg - might resolve the error, otherwise (if this directx 7 doesn't work) try navigating to the installer on the cd specifically for directx 7 and using wine in 95/98 compatibility mode for it. Hope this works out for you.

Re: Sabayon 3.4e, Windows games & Direct X

Ah, the wonders of wine. your "program files" are in drive_c in .wine under your home directory (~/.wine/drive_c/) - that's where you can run programs using command-line. After you've installed a program, a "shortcut" generally appears on the desktop, and the program should show up under wine in the...

Re: Install freezes when adding packages (53% complete)

Gave Sabayon ~100GB to auto-partition, when that froze manually partitioned 90GB / (sda3), 2 GB swap (sda5), 62mb for grub (it really doesn't need 128, tried that too anyway though), grub is sda2 and is first on the disk (to avoid 1024 cylinder limit), gave the rest to a fat partition just to play n...

Install freezes when adding packages (53% complete)

Hi all, md5 is good, checked media and it's good, disk is perfect and has had no opportunity to get scratched up. 3.4f 32bit, no device/hardware/acceleration issues, and install freezes at 53%, on the first step of actually adding packages, which happens to be on the package "virtual-box-1.4.0". I a...

Re: Can't See Any Wireless Networks

In my experience, that freeze is caused by a problem when attempting to configure your graphics card - they've changed the method used for that (I believe) in 3.4f, so you may have luck trying again with 3.4f. Again, It's difficult, but I believe that you can get your Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Ne...

Re: MP4 converter??

Sabayon comes with a program called DVD::RIP, but I'm not sure if it support mp4... but google is always your friend, I'm sure there's some free software out there that will either go from DVD to mp4 or go from one of the formats DVD::RIP handles to mp4... and chances are that Sabayon can run whatev...

Re: Can't See Any Wireless Networks

I'm taking it that ubuntu doesn't support your wireless card - if Windows does, just access the properties menu under your wireless network connections, and find out what wireless card you have. You may have to install a new "driver" (similar to the requirement of installing drivers in windows), and...
