I use the "View posts since last visit" feature a lot, but it would be nice to be able to filter that list in certain ways, especially by language. If you only want to see posts in English, or Italian, it would be nice to allow that.

To be honest, sounds like you may be happier with a binary-based distro. Compiling gives you extra power/customizibility, at the expense of a lot of extra time. If you don't need to additional power of compiling, Gentoo/Sabayon may not be a good fit for you.
