Re: KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

Also eselect setting the kernel makes no edit to the grub.conf. Is this normal ?

Re: KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

Hi, I upgraded the kernel and drivers independently but not via a world update. Thanks for the pointer though, I didn't realise that eselect could select the kernel being used. Strange though that eselect listed the 2.6.31 kernel which I dont' have installed and indeed doesn't show up in entropy. It...

Re: KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

I got about 13 hours more or less unattended uptime. Yes you're probably right, I should give Compiz a break and see if that makes a difference. The combination is probably too much fanciness all at once. I am disappointed though that it doesn't just bomb out X rather than crashing the kernel proper...

Re: KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

Thanks for the reply! Well yes given the content of the forums I can see that my situation would appear to be unique. I'm beginning to suspect ram. Having said that, I left the system on all night unattended and displaying top in a terminal, so if it froze I would see what process would be active fr...

Re: KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

Hoping I'll be allowed to get to the end of this sentence ... I feel like installing a gentoo hardened kernel, but ironically this is the first time I've had suspend and hibernate working in linux and I'm very happy about that. Shame the uptime is so poor right now that I'll never get to suspend the...

Re: KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

Man it's a terrible thing to say I know but I haven't had this many system crashes since windows 95! It's like 5 minutes uptime on average at the moment!

Linux used to be be so rock solid, how come X apps are being allowed to bring down the kernel now?

KDE 4.2 crashes kernel

Hi All, I've finally decided to go up to kde4 (4.2) and generally I like it quite a lot. It seems lighter faster and has a less cluttered interface as well as being very pretty! :-) I do however experience quite a lot of crashes, and of the serious kind. I can't restart X with Ctrl Alt Bkspc or even...

Openoffice java support

Hi All, I had trouble connecting openoffice to a database via jdbc and eventually decided to investigate with portage. Portage reported that the entropy version didn't have java support built in!! Why is this ? I try rebuilding it by using the portage I get failures with various versions from either...

Re: force new entropy database

When I run the database check I get the error:
>> # ATTENTION: database does not exist or is badly broken
and upon equo database gentoosync I get
>> * Installed packages database not available !

Same after I reinstall from portage

force new entropy database

Hi All, I have a system which is fairly out of date and I wanted to upgrade entropy from 0.51 to the latest sulfur 0.96.20 as of writing. The equo upgrade --force seemed to work, but now updates always fail with a sqllite error saying "no such table: baseinfo" any ideas? Can I force the database to ...
