Re: Pb installation xorg nvidia on Qosmio

My Dell E1705 laptop nvidia 7800gtx xorg.conf this should get you into at least a gui kde / gnome desktop or copy the one from the livedvd if working correctly to your hard drive. This is from the livedvd. When booting you can add the cheat codes to force the use of the nvidia driver. xdriver=nvidia...

Re: 4.2 UMPC Edition - Separate CD?

The unetboot takes the 1.8gb 4.2 kde/gnome DVD iso and more or less clones it to a 2gb usb stick hard drive mobile phone memory card so the only reasons to have more space is to create /home folder or similar to reuse it as a portable usb with working configs for frequently used pc's or similar. Sep...

Re: Base Install?

It is extremely nice to jump into the deep side but you would need to check some of the links or suggestions out that gets posted. There is a lot to learn if you are going to stick with gentoo SL funtoo based distro's. It does take a bit of time getting used to some of the ways things gets done in g...

Re: Linux experience worsening for me

ATI drivers for HD Ati cards are suffering and radeonHD guy's are pushing tin at this stage + fixing a lot of bugs that Ati has put on the back burner for the HD dvi part of the drivers. Same with windows HD dvi and overscan issues / limited resolution for dvi HD side. I was seriously considering se...

Re: x86-64 or amd64

LOL here it is very nice you just use equo or sulfur "old spritz" to install the bin packages for you and if you want to you can source compile.

The amd64 ~amd64 tree has more users and more up-to date than other 64bit tree for intel cpu's .

Also check if ati-drivers or radeonHD "xf86-video-radeonhd" will work with your card if using hdmi cables for both sound and video.

Re: Sabayon Git overlay using http

Have you thought of making a local entropy server that clones from mirrors using http rsync ftp. This way 1 download from mirrors and very fast update sync from local entropy server, all crontab actions. Have a look at entropy.conf settings or using a proxy / opendns to to directly bypass the locked...

Re: vboxdrv service not loading drivers automatically

/etc/init.d/something needs to be added to rc-update load / kill during star / shutdown if you want to run it as a service. rc-update add vboxdrv default Should load it at boot. To load a module at boot edit grub.conf and add dovboxdrv doload and modprobe in grub.conf also works or edit /etc/modules...

Re: Base Install?

xorg-server uses xf86-video-nv usually and can result in smaller installs. Ideal for minimal installs. xorg-x11 uses either xf86-video-nv or nvidia nut uses more space and depends on more = larger install. startx = white terminals = /etc/conf.d/xdm needs to point to kdm or gdm to start xfce lxde gno...

Re: Shutdown hangs with no network

If dhcp is causing this you should be able to get dhcp fixed by using: equo update ; equo install equo entropy sulfur layman portage ; equo conf update ; equo libtest ; equo deptest ; equo conf update ; equo install --replay dhcp dhcpcd dhclient opernresolv Copy and paste above or modify as you thin...
