Re: Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates

Fitzcarraldo, well, believe it or not, your last suggestion to create the 90-extensions.conf file appears to have gotten things back on track. I did already have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ so I just placed the file in there, rebooted, and I'm in a normal Plasma session and (for now...) running smoothly a...

Re: Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates

Fitzcarraldo, I just saw your post after putting my last one up - was busy turning off Desktop Effects via the terminal and rebooting a few times. That did not give any improvement, unfortunately. And, moving a bit too fast, I renamed the .kde4backup back to .kde4 (mv rather than cp) and forgot to m...

Re: Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates

I have not yet tried turning off the Desktop Effects, I will shortly, as soon as I can reboot. But wanted to post this while I am still up and running. After Googling a bit I found some references to DBus involving krunner and other apps, so I tried to replicate that here, just because... and I got:...

Re: Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates

I don't really have any plasmoids that I use, just the basic list of things: Launcher, Task Manager, Desktop Switcher, with magneto, Network Management, Calendar & Clock, Keyboard, KOrganizer, Notifications and Jobs, Volume, and the like. No special widgets. I deleted .kde4 after backing it up and r...

Re: Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates

Fitzcarraldo, in my /home/user, ~/.dmrc file I've got: [Desktop] Session=KDE-4 when logged into the standard kde plasma choice, and currently, (running in failsafe mode): [Desktop] Session=kde-plasma-safe ...nothing more. Both versions of the file have 644 permissions. joe74, I have nepomuk disabled...

Re: Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates

I have tried a couple of things, neither of which has worked as yet. I reinstalled kwin, since that is listed as having the massive load in my System Monitor breakdown. No luck, might even be a bit slower, if that's possible. On a Fedora forum I saw someone with a similar, though not exactly the sam...

Kwin Overloads CPU After Updates [Solved]

After the updates to kde and x11 on Monday 16 Apr, when I rebooted I now have a 100% CPU load, and the computer is essentially locked. I can get to the desktop in kde, though no panel icons (trash etc) show, nor does the notification panel. But the system is basically unresponsive. Kwin is currently...

Re: Can I install .rpm or .deb drivers on Sabayon?

Oh, yeah, right...

Did equo unmask (found in http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=En:Equo - nice quick resource) and that was it. Thank you once again.

Re: Can I install .rpm or .deb drivers on Sabayon?

One last thing... I just tried to equo upgrade --ask and at the tail got: >> # (164/164) [sabayonlinux.org] x11-themes/gtk-engines-qtcurve-1.8.14 >> Versions: 1.8.12 / NoTag / 0 ===> 1.8.14 / NoTag / 0 >> Action: Upgrade >> @@ Packages involved: 164 Would you like to continue with dependencies calcu...

Re: Can I install .rpm or .deb drivers on Sabayon?

Fitzcarraldo wrote: It would be useful for you to study the Gentoo documentation on Portage (and the SL Wiki articles on Portage, although they are rather old). Yes, it would, and yes, I will. It's time I learned more about using portage, even if I keep entropy as my primary package manager. And I ...
