I can do a emerge -uvDaN world and manually set all the flags that way, but what a lot of pain.

USE flags generator

I know that equary uses =<packagename> will give the flags for a package and that ufed will edit make.conf USE flags but is there a utility or a bash script that can quarry all packages on your system and generate a recommended USE flag list

If your cd will automount all you need to do is emerge quake4-data and then follow the instructions.
You may need to emerge quake4-bin after that and don't worry about broken glass when opening the cd directory in a new window just open it anyway.

I just installed windows in vmware and it works fine but I did take totedati's suggestion and deleted the cdrom then added a new cdrom by selecting autodetect. I don't think you'll have any problems.

there's a real good example of an automount cdrom instruction for fstab in the sabayon wiki under installing quake4 I use on every new install. I also use vmware and have had no problems with it.
