logout, x shutdown problem [Solved]

my problem is basically the same as this situation , except, i'm using 32bit and no compiz. logout, switch user, reset x, etc leave me with a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top-left. changing to any of the other terminals results in a red border that says "terminal" in big letters. i ins...

help rebinding keyboard shortcuts

when i use the standard method of rebinding keyboard shortcuts here , nothing gets changed when i apply the new settings. everything defaults back to worthless. specifically, i'm trying to set my "menu" key to open a terminal. menu is not a modifier key, so i can't understand why it fails. i would r...

Re: asus f3ka-x2 installation and functionality?

i ran memtestx86 through several passes as soon as i installed the ram, no errors. to test my polishing and regreasing of the heatsink, i ran prime95 for about an hour... no issues. i'll try to do some more experimenting tonight and post the results afterward. i'm getting pretty close to just giving...

Re: asus f3ka-x2 installation and functionality?

when i get a kernel panic, the message is "not syncing: attempted to kill unit" i cannot check the integrity of discs using a linux utility because the only way for me to run linux (right now) is to boot up a live disc. acpi=off resulted in the above panic all-generic-ide came up with a black screen...

Re: asus f3ka-x2 installation and functionality?

see, that's where the fun stops, kernel panic; the caps, num and scroll lock lights all start flashing and everything else stops. i've tried 3.2, 3.4, 3.4f and 3.5 loop1. iirc, each one panicked the only change that i made to the boot options was vga=xxx to res=1280x800 refresh=60 2gb of ram, no iss...

asus f3ka-x2 installation and functionality?

i've had an asus f3ka-x2 for about a month now, and i've tried more versions of linux since acquiring it than in the 3 years prior that i've been experimenting with it. long story short, barely anything boots, and what does boot lacks support for the atheros wireless adapter (vista tells me 5007eg a...

rebinding keys in kde - not an option

i'm migrating over to sabayon from ubuntu, and the most angering thing is that i can't rebind my keyboard shortcuts! no matter how many times i try to set the "menu" key to open a terminal, it keeps reverting to the equivalent of a right-click menu. now, i've even lost the windows key panel menu fun...
