Re: Kde 4.0 on Sabayon

Yes, I have the same problems as many others Plasma crashes and logout doesn't work. I followed Joost's dirty fix and deleted .kde4 folder don't try it. I couldn't log onto kde4 again and my 3.5 session lost all the artwork so I'm reinstalling (but not kde4 again). I think kde4 is not ready yet (I d...

Re: Kde 4.0 on Sabayon

Yes, I did that already (I read previous posts for once) In case someone else has the problem I edited: /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/packages.db.mask (for amd64 replace x86 with amd64): comment all the kde4 packages using your editor of choice. Note the m...

Re: Kde 4.0 on Sabayon

I tried to follow the directions on planet sabayon to install KDE4 on Sabayon 3.5 loop2 32 bit using Entropy but I'm getting this message in the last step: equo install kde-meta-4.0.2 >> !!! Every package matching kde-meta-4.0.2 is masked. >> # Reason: repository general packages.db.mask >> <> atom:...

Re: Kde 4.0 on Sabayon

Why not enable KDE4's own desktop effects  they aren't as wild as Compiz they are probably more geared towards usability. Most effect are turned off by default but can be turned on in the advanced Tab. I don't think that Compiz will play nice with KDE4 but I could be wrong of course (because ...

Re: The most annoying distro!

Sabayon definitly. It's interesting to see the comments that Ubuntu or Suse is annoying. These distros are rock solid and you really have to be a Moron to fuck one of these distro's up. Suse likes to make too many decisions for you and is more for a Newbie. I don't like when a distro decides where ...

Re: Tesco selling Linux PCs!

Great News,
I also bet on Ubuntu (how much will you bet) because the advert says Ubuntu 6.06.
Now I just have to find that Tesco store is it in UK?

Cheers!

Re: The most annoying distro!

Sabayon definitly. I leave to work compiling some stuff AI (Chinese for Maid) comes and shuts down the computer while cleaning ( I thought it would be finished by the time she arrives but No No NO that's the dilemma of compiling you really never know how long it will take). I still stick o Sabayon t...

Re: The reason people distro hop

Yeah, Distro hopping is fun. I have been stuck in Sabayon since 3.4a ( I was thinking of trying earlier but waited for the 3.4 release). I'm really surprised I'm still sticking to it because I have recompiled the kernels (which went okay actually) but doing the updates has been a long process (every...

Re: Uninstalling Compiz/Reinstalling [Solved]

Yep, Sabayon (or gentoo ) is a quite demanding distro. I did a lot of distro hopping and sometimes I have been thinking of leaving Sabayon as well (when you have to kids and working at a quite demanding contract abroad you're time is limited). Anyway I really like Sab so I have stuck to it even if i...

Re: Knetworkmanager a nuisance!

Warra Warra, It's not a problem with stability once I have clicked three times it's rock solid no disconnects. As I said above changing knetwork manager to the other option encrypted (wallet) I only have to click once and then key in my wallet password but if I use the option unencrypted (I still ha...
