Which ATI Drivers? The new fglrx or the announced open-source drivers?
If it's the former, how will we get 3D desktop without fglrx? If the latter, can anyone give a prediction how soon this will be?

Wired networking problems

I just installed Sabayon 3.4 mini (can't install the DVD version since my DVD drive won't read DVDs anymore), and to my unpleasant surprise I realized that my wired LAN card (Broadcomm 440) has issues. In Sabayon 3.3b mini, both wired and wireless was working perfectly, but now I can't get an IP add...

Re: A few Kernel recompile questions...

the sabayon kernel uses scsi emulation for all ide devices, so they will all show up as /dev/sd* or /dev/sr*. it actually has to do with how you configure the kernel. I understand. Can you tell me where in Kernel configuration is this set? And, what's more important, what are advantages of this? Th...

A few Kernel recompile questions...

I've seen some distros (I believe SuSE and Sidux, perhaps (x)Ubuntu) have this nice command "make cloneconfig" which sets up the kernel sources to the currently used configuration. When I tried this in Sabayon, it gave me an error "No rule to make target `cloneconfig'. Stop." I don't know whether th...

problems with IPW2915 wireless

I am running Sabayon Mini 3.3b, and my wireless has been working fine until I recently updated the baselayout and it's deps. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but now my wireless card just can't connect. (I have also mentioned my problem in this thread , since there have been more tha...

Re: Baselayout conflicting packages [Solved]

If someone is still interested in this issue, please take a look at this thread , and see my solution. Also, I started a separate thread since the main problem wasn't actually the same as the one here, and also I've got problems with wireless networking now, so I'd be grateful if someone can help me...

Re: xdm won't load after updating baselayout and its deps

Got it. The first one at least. The solution to starting xdm again, at least for me, was to update xdm and it's deps. emerge -u xdm then set the DISPLAYMANAGER value from "xdm" to "kdm" in /etc/conf.d/xdm and voila. Funny I didn't think of that before. Oh well. Now for the wireless part... any ideas...

Re: xdm won't load after updating baselayout and its deps

OK, I'll try and look into the config files. If I figure anything out, I'll post here. BTW, a correction: I said wireless is seemingly working, while actually it is not. wpa_supplicant won't connect to my wireless network, and always gives message that the passkey may be wrong. Double checked it, it...

Re: xdm won't load after updating baselayout and its deps

wolfden, sorry to inform you, but my SL version is x86. I don't have any 64bit computers. DontPanic, thanks for sharing your experience. I just might unmerge makedev and re-emerge baselayout2. pajamabama, it seems we haven't come to the real answer to this (yet). Rolling baselayout back will make th...

Re: xdm won't load after updating baselayout and its deps

ok, I re-emerged the earlier version of baselayout and not things are mostly back to normal. The problem is, this version of baselayout is conflicting with makedev, so I emerged it with --nodeps flag. Can someone tell me in a nutshell what are the possible damages to my system because of doing so? A...
