I either try to repair the .la symlinks (e.g. libgij.la) manually and if i cant then i delete the file
they are mostly not needed (use caution)

for mDNSresponder i remove it then add its libraries as a USE flag to avahi, although one time after a world update both seemed to stop conflicting

/usr/lib32/opengl/xorg-x11 isnt meant to be a symlink (i found this out the hard way too :twisted: )
delete it and create a folder in /usr/lib32/opengl called xorg-x11

then emerge or revdep-rebuild

no its working with kde 3.5.7 now (meta)
i could never get it working with 3.5.6 as it always tried to pull in a dependancy called sys-lib/liblazy, which has a md5 issue (dont know if thats been resolved)

i had exactly the same problem with liblazy last week http://www.sabayonlinux.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7427
try updating kde using kde 3.5.7 meta
as i was able to upgrade using that

you'll find them maybe in /etc/portage/package.keywords like <=kde-base/kicker-3.5.7-r10 <=kde-base/kicker-3.5.7 i did cause i tried to set mine to only stable packages. but i still wanted kde 3.5.7 cause i couldnt edit my menu before for some reason change the < to > but did you try revdep-rebuild ...
