portage/emerge work just fine - one must learn it. I don't think that's necessarily true. Emerge generally works just fine, but the gentoo portage database is pretty messed up and not even self-consistent. Packages quite often just won't compile. Dependencies and updates routinely screw each other ...

E. Only if through entropy, the Sabayon project provides a reliable and worthy package management solution to replace portage, as well as a configuration module like YaST/PCLOS Control Center. But then, yes.

I'm not positive in 3.4, but in previous versions for me it was an Autostart script that assigned that. You can/should remove it like this: 1. Look in the kde Autostart folder on the terminal/konqueror. (i.e. cd /home/username/.kde/Autostart) 2. See if there are any scripts related to the windows ke...

ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 on a widescreen (1280x800) laptop. Works fine with the same configuration as Beryl, somehow it automatically runs the compiz-start script when I log into KDE, but I can't figure out how. The script completely takes over, though, so fusion-icon/managers/etc. are impossible t...

Thanks very much for posting this. I think everyone is really glad to hear how your work is progressing and supportive of everything that you do! Let us know when you want us to start testing it for real... Just curious, will entropy be able to inherit and override a system based on portage, or will...

Himerge could be an awesome Portage GUI, if...

it weren't written in Haskell. Himerge is a new GUI for portage that looks very promising, however, it is definitely a bear to install. The dependency mess and ebuild issues with Haskell programs (they are currently transitioning from GHC-6.4 to GHC-6.6, remember GCC-3.3 to GCC-3.4 ?) makes it pract...

I basically gave up because it makes no sense whatsoever. I tried re-merging all related packages several times, as well as using your config settings (pretty much the default, I think). I have no clue why the permissions are wrong. To fix it I just added a manual chmod/chown statement to the end of...

Just reverted to dhcp-3.0.6 and it works perfectly now. Looks like it's an issue with net-misc/dhcp-3.1.0, I suggest you mask it and I'm going to file a bug.

I have the same problem here and it's definitely some recent portage update (in the last week or so). Is there any way to look at an emerge history? (I used to in kuroo...) If you run NM manually (kill the daemon /etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop, then run NetworkManager --no-daemon), you can see that...

Mebitek, I definitely think that is the right track, I just can't understand why it isn't working as it (seems) it should. Here is the relevent portion of /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules: # alsa devices SUBSYSTEM=="sound", GROUP="audio" KERNEL=="controlC[0-9]*", NAME="snd/%k", GROUP="audio", MODE="0...
