Re: From Ubuntu to Sabayon

If you don't have a separate /home partition, or if you have one but want to resize it, follow flick's advice. But I can personally confirm that making a /home partition in ubuntu (Hardy was my previous OS) and formatting the / partition for SL instal is a very good thing. In my case, I now have two...

Ath5k not detecting my card [Solved]

So I've just installed Sabayon 3.5. Gotta say I miss the red, but that's another story. Basically, neither the Livecd or the finished installation showed any evidence that SL had detected my atheros chipset. I blame the incomplete ath5k driver. Solved by compiling madwifi 0.9.4. ~Tonedeaf EDIT: Here...

mp4 encoding apps in sabayon

OK, after thinking about it a lot, I've decided to move my iTunes multimedia collection to Sabayon. However, I do have a few questions. How am I going to sync the data, including video? and, should I keep using my old ad-riddled Windows mpeg converter app or is there a native linux gui in sabayon/po...

Sabayon 3.5 Rolling release?

Hello all, I have been distro-hopping for my laptop and have finally settled on Arch Linux for it. I tried Sabayon 3.4e, but Arch was literally the only distro to work properly in any way with my thinkpad t61, and I suspect it will stay that way until at least october, when a slew of new distros are...

The fonts look great. My problem is that everything in most distros that I have used is slightly bigger than in windows xp, and on my laptop it is giving me a headache whereas in debian and sabayon I do not get one at the same res on the same screen.

I am talking about my 14 inch laptop here. I have been OS hopping (distro hopping plus windows) ever since I got it and I noticed that the week I settled on Debian (because it got the resolution right) I got no headaches. On the other hand, Those times I used windows for a day or more, I got a heada...

Windows gives me a headache

This is a question for all windows converts out there. Have you ever gotten headaches looking at a computer screen in Windows? How about in Linux? I have used Debian Etch through Sid and Sabayon 3.3 through 3.4 (all loops plus stable) and I have not gotten headaches as often, if at all. Part of the ...

64 bit compiling question

OK, if I compilied an app (lets say zdoom) under a 64 bit os, would it be a 64 bit app? (assuming it works, obviously) If so, does this apply to portage, since it compiles everything before install? How would a 32-bit app function in sabayon?
Please respond,

I'm not dual booting, but thank you. In fact, one of the reasons I am getting a laptop is so I can run Sabayon without my brother complaining (my desktop doubles as the family gaming machine). I will likely be splitting off / as 20gb and 38gb as /home. the remaining 2gb will be swap. I've never foun...
