I hope Tesco has preconfigured Ubuntu 6.06 with the video and audio codecs, because your average Tesco customer is not going to know how to do it. I think that is a very good point. If these PCs 'just work' and do everything that the average user wants then potentially it is a huge boost for Linux....

Can't play DVDs 'DVD from drive' in Mplayer.[Solved]

I can only get DVDs to play with MPlayer if I choose the 'DVD from folder' option. If I choose 'DVD from drive' nothing happens. If I load a DVD the 'new media has been detected' dialogue box opens but when I select the AMPlayer option I get /media/DVDname is a folder, but a file was expected.

Great News, I also bet on Ubuntu (how much will you bet) because the advert says Ubuntu 6.06. You are right! Either I never noticed that or they had updated the site! Now I just have to find that Tesco store is it in UK? It is a UK company but they have stores abroad as well. But this offer is from...

Tesco are selling basic desktop PCs pre-installed with Linux! It doesn't say what KIND of Linux but I am betting Ubuntu.

That really depends on your hardware and internet connection (assuming you are downloading it?). If you have a dial up connection then forget about the full DVD! Also if you have a 64bit processor then you can choose the 64 bit version. Though personally I have never been convinced of the value of g...

I emerged openoffice-bin on my other PC last night. I don't know exactly how low it took but it was less than twenty minutes. Lesson learned! :wink:
