Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade [Solved]

Hello, PrimeSuspect. I am the individual that opened this thread, and I am the individual that marked it "Solved". If solution requires a new sabayon-weekly ISO image in order to perform a clean LFC, then you might be waiting a very long time unless you build the ISO image yourself. The most recent ...

Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade

I followed up on MikeDee's suggestion and reinstalled "Lightdm Base" and "Lightdm Slick Greeter". I then verified that the file /lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service existed. Please note that the file location changed from /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service to /lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service....

Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade

I have now examined both my desktop and my laptop. On both systems there are links from /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service to /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service. On both systems /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service DOES NOT EXIST. Boot to login used to work seamlessly, so either the...

Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade

Hi, joost and msdobrescu. I did a little exploring. On my laptop I see that the file /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service is a symlink to /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service. Trying to perform "systemctl enable sddm.service will fail due to this. What is interesting to note is that while ...

Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade

Hi, joost. I didn't merge anything special. My weekly procedure is: equo update equo upgrade --multifetch=10 equo deptest eselect opengl list;eselect opencl list;eselect kernel list;eselect bzimage list Note that I did NOT perform "equo conf update", and I did not receive instructions near the end o...

Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade

Thank you very much for your response, joost. I executed the eselect and systemctl commands that you provided verbatim. This resulted in the laptop providing the graphical login display. I logged in through the graphical interface and after a reasonable amount of time was presented with the appropri...

Re: HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade

Thank you for your reply, msdobrescu. The laptop is dual-bootable. Windows is working fine. This issue is not caused by a hardware failure. When I boot the laptop into Windows, I can look at the driver properties, and the properties state that the graphics hardware uses an Intel Sandybridge graphics...

HELP: Display Fails with 07Dec2019 Upgrade [Solved]

Hello, Sabayon Gurus. I have just upgraded both my desktop and laptop. I rebooted the laptop and can obtain only a terminal login...lightdm or something earlier is failing. I have not rebooted my desktop yet because I fear the same issue might occur. Both the desktop and laptop are running the 5.3 k...

Re: Is it ok to wipe hard drive before installing sabayon

Hi, Phuong. Is your Win10 system UEFI or BIOS? Are you installing from LiveDVD or USB? I have systems that are UEFI and BIOS. If I install to the UEFI system with an ISO image burned to a USB stick using unetbootin, it installs Sabayon with the UEFI security, but that makes dual bootability a bit di...

Re: Making USB sticks bootable

Hello, Paul.

I have made USB sticks bootable by using unetbootin to install the ISO image on the USB.
It was very straight-forward.
If your system supports UEFI, then I suspect it will default to a UEFI installation.
