Re: Everything has gone wrong!

Hi, sorry to hear what happened to you. Maybe take a break before you throw things around ;-) Some ideas on what could have gone wrong with your diagnosis: 1) grub commands not found: What commands did you enter? Could you share the link with the instructions you followed? once I could get onto sab...

Re: Everything has gone wrong!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my phone, LG, was tethered by USB to the computer when this happened and it either wiped or corrupted the SD card on it, too. The phone itself is fine but the SD card seems to have been toasted by whatever happened to the laptop hard drive. When I bring up the file m...

Everything has gone wrong!

I let my step daughter check her email on my computer last night. Next thing I know it's froze up. She said all she did was wipe off the touchpad with her sleeve. I couldn't get it to unfreeze so I hard restarted. It comes back with "unknown filesystem" and goes into "grub rescue>". So I've tried th...

Re: Things going transparent in GUI after newest updates.

Thankyou. Yeah, I deleted windows, there's still an empty partition there. Haven't done anything lately, just been using Gnome and ignoring Xfce, my mind has been on other things. I'll try Rufus, appreciate the suggestion. Will update. :)

Gnome not recognising laptop

So, after being irritated with Xfce for long enough, I went ahead and installed Gnome through Entropy, just to try it out. It wasn't how I wanted to do things, but I'm having trouble getting a live usb to work lately. It looks nice and is running smoother. I'm finding I like Classic better than the ...

Re: Things going transparent in GUI after newest updates.

Not yet. I suppose I could just do that, delete the windblows partition and extend the linux partition, but I didnt really want to do it that way.. I kinda wanted to just wipe the drive and start from scratch.

Re: Things going transparent in GUI after newest updates.

So, I've been putting up with this because I really haven't had time to deal with it, but it's getting worse. Drop screens and windows, including Terminal, flicker transparent rapidly and make it difficult to do alot of things. Not all, just certain ones. Some from the panel, some in Firefox (before...

Re: Things going transparent in GUI after newest updates.

So, updating kernel did no good. The problem seems to be mostly involving the panel and drop down menus in most all applications.
I am running Xfce on an Aspire E1-431.

Things going transparent in GUI after newest updates.

I'm used to one or two things being a bit weird after running updates, but this one is a bit different. I try to do something in terminal and whole blocks of text will go transparent, only showing a big section of the wallpaper behind it. Drop downs from the panel like Applications, Battery, and Dat...
