Re: How to have custom USE flags

The best plan of attack is to file a bug for the package to be recompiled in entropy to include the flag you desire. As long as it doesn't break anyone else, the devs are usually happy to oblige.

Re: converting gentoo to sabayon

That's awesome. Just keep in mind that entropy, while compatible with portage to an extent, expects all packages on the system to be compiled with the same flags that the entropy repository compiles them in. That's the only way to ensure binary compatibility. You might or might not run into problems...

Re: converting gentoo to sabayon

Truthfully, it's not worth the effort, even though it can be done. You're much better off saving off what you want to keep from a gentoo install and installing Sabayon fresh. I realize that isn't what you asked for, but you simply won't get much support attempting to do that, and you will almost cer...

Re: Fix python for equo

I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough to really walk anyone else through this. I've not needed to rescue an install for years. While I could probably stumble through it myself, I don't know it well enough to assist remotely. Using chroot should change your root at the system level, so it shouldn't real...

Re: Fix python for equo

That is problematic indeed. It really shouldn't have uninstalled python 3 accidentally, so an interruption seems likely. If you have the live cd, you can boot it up and try to fix it via chroot: https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title=HOWTO:_chroot_from_a_LiveCD Or probably easier would be to simpl...

Re: Wine 4?

Unstable = testing. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:X86/Portage/Branches Having multiple versions installed side by side is much more complicated for maintainers than you seem to believe. It is possible, but it is not something to do without careful consideration of the costs/benefits. As far ...

Re: Wine 4?

https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/media-video/ffmpeg ffmpeg 3.4.5 is in portage stable branch. ffmpeg 4.1.1 is in portage unstable branch. While Sabayon is generally built out of the unstable portage branch, there are a lot of applications that depend on ffmpeg to work. Basically, it would be ris...

Re: Coming back to Sabayon after some years

Stuff got newer. How long ago?
We generally support systemd as the init system (previously OpenRC was the init system of choice).
We just switched over to dracut.
I think we default to python 3 now?

Other than that, we're still the same rolling release, binary distro that we've always been.

Re: Sound pops and cracks

I can't say that I've noticed that, but I will keep an ear out for it. I'm generally running an IDE, a heavy java application, a browser (if not two) with a lot of tabs open. It's hard for me to narrow down what triggers it, but I've noticed that just closing the problematic application (generally t...
