Re: Wine 4?

Unstable = testing. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:X86/Portage/Branches Having multiple versions installed side by side is much more complicated for maintainers than you seem to believe. It is possible, but it is not something to do without careful consideration of the costs/benefits. As far ...

Re: Wine 4?

https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/media-video/ffmpeg ffmpeg 3.4.5 is in portage stable branch. ffmpeg 4.1.1 is in portage unstable branch. While Sabayon is generally built out of the unstable portage branch, there are a lot of applications that depend on ffmpeg to work. Basically, it would be ris...

Re: Coming back to Sabayon after some years

Stuff got newer. How long ago?
We generally support systemd as the init system (previously OpenRC was the init system of choice).
We just switched over to dracut.
I think we default to python 3 now?

Other than that, we're still the same rolling release, binary distro that we've always been.

Re: Sound pops and cracks

I can't say that I've noticed that, but I will keep an ear out for it. I'm generally running an IDE, a heavy java application, a browser (if not two) with a lot of tabs open. It's hard for me to narrow down what triggers it, but I've noticed that just closing the problematic application (generally t...

Re: How to install a tar.gz file?

You originally asked this in a different forum thread. Fitz moved it. But, to attempt to answer your question, let's start with "what is a .tar.xz file?" And the answer, is it's simply a compressed file format. So, what you need to do is uncompress it (also referred to as extracting) Let's say your ...

Re: Sound pops and cracks

Ha. Mine has also gotten worse this past week. Our symptoms are changing too consistently for it to be a coincidence, I think.

Re: Sound pops and cracks [Solved]

Ah ok. Just curious. I don't know if I can say for sure that the popping/cracking ever truly went away for me, since it seems dependent on resource usage and who knows what else. But I just had it occurring earlier today and right when I switched backends, it seemed to fix itself. It might have been...
