Re: Debian Vs Gentoo

Debian isn't exactly cutting edge and even Debian Sid does not have the latest versions available from upstream sources. For example KDE in Debian Sid is at 4.6.5 while Sabayon/Gentoo has 4.7.3

Re: Another Sabayon upgrade mess...

My 2 cents on this subject: I'm an Aptosid (debian sid based distro) user and they have a section on their forum that's for warnings that some update will break things.I'd suggest something like that here too so that can help users in advance of updates that run the risk of breaking their Sabayon in...

Re: "equo update" question

I have this same issue and have NOT touched the config files: $ sudo equo update >> @@ Repositories synchronization ... >> # Sabayon Linux Official Repository >> # Repository URL: http://pkg.sabayon.org/standard/sabayonlinux.org/database/amd64/5 >> # Repository local path: /var/lib/entropy/client/da...

Re: SL7 - cannot play .rm files any more!

what about w64codecs? There are 64 bit Windows codecs out there as Debian multimedia repo has w64codecs package. Should there be a similar package ported over to sabayon?

Re: Debian "The best Linux distro of 2011!"

Fedora has gone on a downward slide IMO...no wonder people have been abandoning it. Debian is quite slick but its rather behind the times though.

Re: Cross-disro application installer ?

Now would it be cool if equo/entropy can open and install .deb's and RPM's as many packages out there are primarily deb or rpm's. A cross-distro package manager would be cool and I remember Autopackage was one attempt at such a cross-distro package installer Well, things would be like this : It wou...

Re: Debian "The best Linux distro of 2011!"

I've been a fan of Debian for some years now after dumping Fedora. My current setup has Aptosid 2011-2 installed and as Debian seemed to be rather stagnant lately thought I'd try other cutting edge distros such as Arch and Sabayon.

Re: An unpleasant forecast

I sure hope mobo makers will make boards that are Linux friendly and I'm sure there will be a market for such boards. Microsoft's latest attack on OSS means they'll pretty much lock in the consumer PC market which means that such machines will be Windows 8 only. So the only route will be boards that...
