Re: Sabayon X runs, installs on desktop but not on netbook

I tried the various options in the F5 menu to no avail, but then I started looking at the boot parameters. It turned out to be the "vga=791" setting that was causing the problem -- after removing that, everything booted fine and I was able to install. I'm typing in Sabayon on my netbook right now, a...

Sabayon X runs, installs on desktop but not netbook [Solved]

Hello, I've just installed Sabayon X on my desktop (an old IBM Thinkcentre) and everything went smoothly. I wanted to install it on my netbook (an Acer Aspire One 722) but I can't get past the initial boot menu. Whether I select the live session or the installer, either way the screen goes black and...

Re: Connected to network, but can't browse or use entropy

Thanks for the reply. I set the router to WPA/TKIP only, but I couldn't figure out how to set that on the PC side in Sabayon — network manager only offers me the choices of "WPA/WPA2 Personal" and "WPA/WPA2 Enterprise". In any case, changing the setting on the router hasn't improved anything so far.

Connected to network, but can't browse or use entropy

Hello, I'm new to Sabayon. I installed it on a spare box to try it out, and I liked it so much that I put it on my main desktop, but on the second machine I'm having problems accessing the internet. I have only a wireless connection in my home office where I have these two computers. The wireless ne...

Re: New to Sabayon: problems with sound, updating [Solved]

Thanks for the replies. Since this has turned out to be a networking problem rather than an updating/entropy problem, I'm going to move subsequent discussion to the Networking and Wireless subforum. Thanks for the help.

Re: New to Sabayon: problems with sound [Solved], updating

Thanks for the replies, guys. My wireless network uses WPA/WPA2 encryption, but I don't think that is the problem. I created a profile for the network manager, and the first thing that the system does after I log in is connect to the internet. The icon in the system tray changes from the swirling "c...

Re: New to Sabayon: problems with sound [SOLVED], updating

Thanks for your reply! Following the link you posted, I raised a few levels in alsamixer, and now I have sound. Not that I understand how or why that fixed the problem, but it did, so I'm not going to worry too much about it! As for updating, I think maybe the problem with timeout errors must have s...

Re: New to Sabayon: problems with sound, updating [Solved]

Hello, I'm new-ish to Linux (a couple of years) and brand new to Sabayon. I've mostly used Ubuntu-based distros up till this point, but I read a bunch of good things about Sabayon and wanted to try it. I first installed the GNOME edition (32-bit) on my spare box for experimenting on -- an old IBM Th...
