Re: X server failure in Sabayon 13.04

Well, I've just discovered I can run a CLI installer. Unfortunately, it offers the options 1. use the whole disk 2. use free space 3. overwrite an existing Linux. I have two existing Linuxes: which was it intending to overwrite? It's rather important to know such things! Am I going to delete my gues...

Re: X server failure in Sabayon 13.04

I tried that command after booting in console mode and got warning: xdm has already been started. Out of curiosity, I've just downloaded the CDX version: exactly the same problem. I've just had a brainwave! I mounted a USB stick and redirected the output of xinit to it. The last entries are Initiali...

X server failure in Sabayon 13.04

I've got the 13.04 live disk, 32-bit Xfce version. When I try to run it, it ends with a lockup. The disk is OK: I checked. If I start in the console mode, it works. If I then try startx or xinit, I get a quick flash of unreadable messages followed by a blank screen and a lock-up. And it's a complete...

Wired network problem [Solved]

I've installed the Gnome version of Sabayon 6 and the network manager is behaving erratically. I get the message that the network is now enabled, but it isn't. I looked in the log and found that after DHCPACK from 192.168.1.1, sometimes it bound correctly to 192.168.1.2, but on other occasions it wa...

Re: How to manage services from the command line

Stupot had the answer: thanks! I'd assumed that I could just look at what was going on, rather than change it, without becoming root; also that PATH would cover all commands. I was impressed that I didn't actually need to make any changes, unlike so many setups where everything is started on the cha...

Re: Fluxbox (or GDM) has stopped working

The cause was pure carelessness. Before "exec fluxbox" in the startup script I had inserted "exec setxkbmap", when I should have just written "setxkbdmap". It does help to read the instructions

Fluxbox (or GDM) has stopped working [Solved]

This afternoon all was working perfectly, but this evening the session would not start. The only error message was: /etc/X11/gdm/xsession which: no keychain in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin: [snipped] /usr/games/bin) /etc/X11/gdm/xsession Setup done, will execute /usr/bin/ssh-agent --startfluxbox Logging...

Re: How to manage services from the command line

There may be a man page, but there's no program!

bash: rc-update: command not found

No match for rc-update in repositories

How to manage services from the command line [Solved]

I'm putting together a system from Sabayon CDX, and I'm looking for something to manage the daemons. I've checked the repository for chkconfig, sysv-rc-conf, and ntsysv, with no luck. Is there an equivalent in Sabayon, or do I just have to alter the scripts by hand? And if I do have to alter the scr...
