Nvidia drivers masked - now what?

So a couple of days ago I did an update from Sulfur and didn't check what the updates were (yes I know - BAD analyticalman)! It pulled in a new kernel (2.6.34) somewhat surprisingly. Unsurprisingly as an Nvidia driver user I then rebooted into the blinking cursor of doom and had to reboot with the 2...

Re: Sabayon 5.2_64 live disk installation.Brkn.Grub [Solved]

Could you try grub-install /dev/sda rather than /dev/sdb? This works fine for me - I have windows on /dev/sda and Linux distros on /dev/sdb. the bios is set to boot on /dev/sda so thats where you want to write to the MBR. (Alternatively change your boot drive to the B drive in your bios)

Re: Sabayon 5.2_64 live disk installation.Brkn.Grub [Solved]

Just so I understand - you are in PCLOS - its working fine but if you su to root and do grub-install /dev/hda (I would probably try it with and without the external disc connected) then assuming you boot from hda it doesn't install grub on your MBR is that right? Do you get error messages? If you do...

Re: Sabayon 5.2_64 live disk installation.Brkn.Grub [Solved]

I've kind of come into this post late so I apologise if I've missed a load of stuff. However, you say that you can access PCLOS. So I hope that means you can boot into it. If you can, and if, as you say, you want the PCLOS to be the master boot loader, then as PCLOS uses Grub 1 (I think), why cant y...

Re: Cannot boot with chainloading [Solved]

Hey man - glad to help! I just hope Grub 2 gets a bit more sorted you know! At the moment, I cannot have it on my mbr due to a bug where it churns for ever if you try to load up a distro on a different disk. I'm sure it'll be good when its mature but for now it sure is causing some heat!

Re: Cannot boot with chainloading

I had the same problem, to solve it I changed my grub 1 entry (grub 1 is on my mbr, Sabayon is on disk 1 partition 1 with Grub2 in the root partition) from this; title Sabayon root (hd1,0) chainloader +1 to this: title Sabayon root (hd1,0) kernel /boot/grub/core.img savedefault boot Now boots as exp...

How do I "banish" packages from Entropy / Spritz [Solved]

Hi - Just installed Sabayon 4 - very nice! (although how did I get so many window managers - I just asked for KDE and as well as that I have Gnome, Fluxbox, Openbox, XFCE, LXDE (huh?)) When I update packages its like updating the whole of Linux :) Anyway - thats the problem - although my 3D accelera...

Re: KDE 4.1 released

tried 4.1.1 on Mandriva 2009 RC1. Seemed much more polished. The kwin compositor is getting there (apart from when I could only stop my cube spinning by throwing it into reverse ). Beginning to look forward to it appearing on Sabayon!
