Re: is grub2 closed source? and how to get rid of it?

I think the main complaints that most of us have with GRUB2 are 1) slowness to boot 2) difficulty in changing settings. I timed my first installation of Ubuntu 10.04, there was 13 seconds after selecting the OS before any hdd activity. That's unacceptable. GRUB works, why break it? Since changing ba...

Re: is grub2 closed source? and how to get rid of it?

Having used Ubuntu since 6.06, Knoppix since 3.1, and Sabayon since 3.2, I got really used to good old grub. When grub2 was forced on me with Ubuntu 9.10, I was outraged. I haven't installed a newer Sabayon yet, so I can't speak knowledgeably about this grub2, but my system hung for about 13 seconds...

4-r1 with less keyboard shortcuts?

i just installed sabayon 4-r1 x86_64 (the last one i used was 3.5) and i'm disappointed at the lack of abundant keyboard shortcut options in gnome. typically, i use shortcuts for switching desktops, opening a terminal, accessing the panel menu, etc... but i can't set all of those shortcuts with the ...

3.5 broke madwifi

i had been using 3.5 loop2 because my atheros wireless adapter worked right away. i had to do some tinkering to get the gpu to work... and eventually got stuff functioning. now, 3.5 doesn't have atheros functionality from the start and i'm having some issues getting things up and running. i have an ...

after reading a bit more, it looks like the project needs to be registered as a 501c3 before donations can be considered tax deductible. gentoo is a 501c6, not deductible :-(

Re: donations and tax deductions

i may consider the free software foundation, but there are a couple of groups that i feel have earned my support - gentoo and sabayon, specifically. frustrating for someone like me is that gentoo is a different classification of non-profit and is not deductible :( i did find some info about this, bu...

donations and tax deductions

i'll be starting a new job in the near future, one that will afford me a chance to make the charitable contributions that i've shirked while in college and for a while after. i plan on donating to several causes, but, because i'm in america, i'm most interested in the ones that qualify as non-profit...

Re: logout, x shutdown problem

sorry i've been gone for so long - i was uninstalling, editing, installing, blah blah blah... i forgot to mention that i am using gnome. anyway, i found a solution. i don't know about nvidia, but with my gpu, when installing the drivers, there was some sort of collision with (i hope i remember corre...
