Networking gone after uninstalling wicd

I never needed wicd for my network connections. Both ethernet and wireless worked fine with NetworkManager and nm-applet. When wicd was added by default a few months ago to Sabayon I was irritated by the useless pop-up window requesting password with which I was beeing greeted every time I was loggi...

Re: Anyone uses XBMC

I tend to agree with Richlion: XBMC seems to be a promising but unfortunately half-baked idea-product that promisses a lot and botches a lot at the very same time. When I was trying to use it after installing Sabayon 5.o, it was as useful as irritating, and on some lossless sources painfully distort...

Re: System Freezing at uevents &/or Login After Kernel Upgra

Like Fitzcarraldo above I have no time to read through the whole thread but after installing the new kernel yesterday I can report much the same behavior: the boot sequence hangs completing some 80% and after several tries I consider the recent kernel package to be broken (and have no desire to fix ...

Re: Thinking of switching from windows 7 to sabayon

I would shrink the WIndows partition, install Linux besides Window, and dual boot. I use and value Linux for speed, control, power, and above all all the available resources -- all freely available for you. Also it is an excellent place to learn the operating system internals, shell programming etc....

Re: updating TexLive via Entropy

Please note: I am not ranting, even though I had every reason to, considering that updating 51 packages takes approximately 5-6 hours (!) with the fastest connections available, so it is not a download problem. Secondly, if performing mindless regenerations of all TeX formats and font maps for every...

updating TexLive via Entropy

I decided to update TeXLive. The TexLive bundle in my Sabayon consists of 51 related packages. After equo finished downloading the packages it went to install them one-by-one and, to my disbelief, after installing each equo has been regenerating formats and font map files. The last two steps are ver...

Re: Stability of 5.1

Hi, Has the stability of Sabayon improved with 5.1? I am currently attempting to run 5.0 and am finding it to be littered with bug upon bug. I have not EVER had a clean shutdown with 5.0, it always frozen when I clicked on shut down and I have had to do a hard shutdown. When it works, Sabayon is an...

Re: An annoying Wicd related pop-up window (most desktops)

FYI we ship WICD pre-installed because allot of people requested this. Incase NetworkManager is problematic with their network/system WICD could be a good alternative for them. Sure, I see good reasons myself to have wicd in the standard Sabayon. Your remark, Joost, just corroborates my belief that...

Re: An annoying Wicd related pop-up window (most desktops)

Thank you, dunsurfin, for the confirmation!

Ian, thanks for the additional information. It's helpful to know that the observed behavior is caused by an applet autostarted in absence of some required daemon. For your information: I didn't make any changes to any startup/autostart settings.

Re: An annoying Wicd related pop-up window (most desktops)

Thank your for responding to my post. I haven't made any changes to the Entropy defaults so I suppose the limbo repository is not enabled. I don't mind wicd to be installed though I can't remember ever installing it myself. I just object to its being automatically started when I log in and requiring...
