i wanted to write back simply as a courtesy, to say that I have officially given up on this project. I am going to go with another distro, that after toying with it for a bit, have found that it is more inclined towards my use and purposes. Thanks for all the help provided, it is greatly appreciated.

okay...

it sort of works...

every time i reset my machine, it goes back to the power save settings. Is there anyway to make this fix permanent?
