Equo - The Entropy Alpha Development Sabayon Repository

Postby Element » Wed Jul 25, 2007 15:53

Hey guys. Today I come across our leader lxnay and I had asked him how the Entropy development was coming along. He pointed me to a package called equo. I'm about to tell you how to get it and basically how to play with the few features that are even partway working now. Remember that this is still in the Alpha Development stages so it is still broken. So please people, no bug reports or questions about why you're getting errors.

• layman -s sabayon
• emerge -va equo
• Then once that is done compiling do an equo repo sync. What this does is sync up the database to your computer.
• Next try an equo package search amarok and watch how fast it downloads ^-^.

I was blown away by how fast this works. Lxnay you have really outdone yourself. And remember people, no bug reports or anything.

equo sync doesnt work either does equo packages search amarok.
if you have a look at the help.

Code: Select all
>> Sabayon Linux equilibrium (C - 2007)
>> General Options:
>>   --help             this output
>>   --version          print version
>>   --verbose          be more verbose
>>   --nocolor          disable colorized output
>> Tools available:
>>      repo             to handle package repositories
>>              sync                     sync repositories
>>              show                     show enabled repositories
>>              status                   show respositories status
>>      package          to handle packages
>>              search                   to search a package inside the database
>>              --ask                    ask before making any changes
>>              --pretend                just show what would be done
>>      database         to handle installed packages database
>>              void                     void void void void void void void

so the correct commands are

Code: Select all
# equo repo sync
# equo package search amarok

Yeah, more on the next days. I just made another slight change to the API to fit equo needings.

This is awesome. No more watching that annoying little spinner in emerge.

So is that the idea? To completely replace emerge? Because if it is, I'm in. This is amazing.

it's the main reason. The others are: performance, less bloat, less issues.

Impressive work. It's things like this that draw me to Sabayon. You guys are really doing a great job, keep it up.

When it says something isn't installed, is it checking it against current packages or it's own database? i.e. when I do equo package search amarok, it says it isn't installed, even though (a lesser version) is installed.

edgevision, it is in a pre-pre-pre-alpha stage... at the moment, it can't generate the client database.

but, before begin any test, for the sync part, how big is the repo now? or is like portage, only small text files .... for my part i have enough space, i hope, but for server repo, this can be a killer task ....
