Why not Konqueror?

Because for a newbie using kde4 it would be easier, as all partitions are displayed in the Places section of dolphin, then all user has to do is point and click on partition to display the contents of partition, then right click and select unmount

With Konqueror in kde4 the user must mount partition first (is not the same as with kde3)

Dolphin is the default file manager in kde4 and once options are set to user preferences is very easy to use, I must admit it did take little awhile as I came from mc to Konqueror to dolphin and know emelFM2 (sysrescd)

Sorry I don't use xbmc, I normally open files with a filemanager, in kde4 GUI try mounting the partition then right click on one of the media files and select Open With - Other and select Multimedia - XBMC Media Center

Other than that I suggest for you to create a new topic xmbc
