Can't install using Spritz

Postby wnewnum » Thu Jun 18, 2009 16:56

Hello,

I installed Sabayon 4.1 GNOME yesterday as a virtual machine yesterday on a Windows XP Pro computer using Sun VirtualBox. Networking is working fine except that I can't find any software updates or new packages using the Spritz Package Manager. I updated the repositories, and it spent a few minutes downloading. However, when I search on anything, it comes up empty. I am logged in as root. I have also tried logging in as a regular user and giving Spritz the root password when prompted.

I have made exceptions in the Windows firewall for ports 1026 and 1027.

I made two screen captures and uploaded them to my webserver in case they are useful.

1. My list of repositories after the update.

2. Results after searching on "quota."

If anyone can tell me when I am going wrong, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you,

Will

Try searching for " equo " to see if the list is there if so the fortune program you are looking for is not yet in equo tree and can be requested to be added to the tree.
You can also install it with "file, top left of spritz / sulfur " and install from source then point to downloaded file or download link and it should do the rest.

You might also want to do the basics like update equo entropy and spritz (new name sulfur) .
PS> if you would like to do a world update " very thing installed update" first let it download needed files then let it install there is options for this and lastly let it fix anything that is unstable during install using the advanced "libtest" and "deptest" options, they are in different places in spritz and sulfur.

This will results in a very well working updated installed SabayonLinux for you and can then reboot.

I searched on " equo," and it came up blank. I also searched on "sulfur" with the same result.

I ran a dependency check, and there were no problems. However, the libraries check found a ton of problems. Screen capture of this below.

Then I got a message that the packages could not be found in the repositories.

I've even tried to search for all updates. I assume that their have been updates since the .iso was created on 4/13, but that also comes up blank.

If the update repositories did it's thing and still nothing or possibly it failed but you mentioned it downloaded there should be no problem.

You can try as root terminal login to run :
Code: Select all
equo update --force

Note if there is error messages should be in red text.

Then
Code: Select all
equo install entropy equo sulfur

If this tells you there is nothing then see the first link below.

Code: Select all

or
http://forum.sabayonlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=16797&p=96234&hilit=rsync#p96234

Try the rsync option using one of the mirrors closest to you or ibiblio as is in the link.
Once this is complete you will have a proper database and should be able to run equo update or any equo option without issues.

I think that I have fixed it. I was looking around the file system and noticed a file called bashrc in the folder /etc/entropy. Well, I had changed the default shell for my accounts (including root) to tcsh. I changed my default shell back to bash and did a forced repository refresh. For about two hours, it said "Running Fixpackages." For about another hour, I got various messages about moving files. Now it is downloading (and hopefully installing) updates for all vulnerable packages.

I will post again once this is done to confirm that I can now install add-ons.

Sabayon has a beautiful installer and all-around look to it!

Thanks,

Will

WarraWarra,

Thank you for all of the suggestions. Switching shells back to bash fixed everything. I just updated 75 packages and am now installing sulfur.
