this distro needs more advertisement

Postby hatalar205 » Sun Jun 14, 2009 11:54

I have tested many Linux distribution before. I like some of them and don't like a few of them. Every distribution has some advantages and disadvantages. I think the balance between two of them make them more popular or not. But in SL it is a bit different, although I am not a well experienced Linux user and have SL 4.2 in my computer, I have had a few small problems up to now. And nearly all of them, has been solved with the help of this community (thanks to forum users and live help users). But very few people know this great SL.
As a result I think this powerful distro must be advertised more. And thanks to this great team who gives us a chance to open our minds.
Everything is your fault. Yes, I advised you but you did.

well Distrowatch will beg to differ on the very few people knowing SL, we are currently #9 on top rankings

Advertising is always needed of course no matter what, so spread the word.

Yup, absolutely correct both posts above.

We can start looking at more user awareness after 4.2 is out and possibly mark 4.1 as a beta version or repackage 4.1 with a few fixes.
As far as I can remember there was talk about not too much exposure as we do not yet have enough persons to help out should the big wave come in / likely want to tweak the forums / wiki and other thing to lead to more, users find bug / find solution / fix solution without re-posting the same answer / question several times as this takes time from development team / beta tester team instead of leaving them to spend time with what is needed to be done.

As Wolfden mentioned please feel free to help out and tell anyone that wants to listen about it as we always need help with anything you can imagine to make it better and only with passionate users helping out can we make this hell of a distro much better for future users.

If you can help out in any way from hardware to testing / translate to donations to faultfinding beta testing anything give me a shout or most moderators on the forums so we can get you hooked up with the correct person for the task. Most of the guys are very busy making SL nice and you might not get a immediate reply.

See also helping with the beta testing topics in the forums or similar as there is a few how-to's and info you can supply to get you started faster.
See also the how-to post problems and logs as well as SL bugzilla as this helps the team a lot to fix things that could be over read in the forums / get a higher priority, they need to replicate it and or read a solution to fix it = fastest way to resolve a problem.

Imagine SL as a big family with the "retard = me " LOL and the fundi's + users and all chipping in to make this the most successful family/distro there is and everyone can contribute in one way or another to help. This then benefits linux as a whole directly or indirectly.

Hi All,

I agree. I think one of the ways to advertise is to spread the word, one place is here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/sabayon-86/

Does anyone know more places apart from distrowatch?

Regards,
Richard
