pepe999 have you updated again since you got your system working (at time of this post repository is revision 1109)
Would be nice to find out if your system will work with the 180.60r1 or if you would have to downgrade to the 180.53

finn-p wrote:all that here is written yet has not helped

What nividia card do you actually have?
If not sure how to find, as root type
lspci

You should see something like this (this is mine and is the last line)

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 9500 GT (rev a1)

Another thing that might help us is what version of sabayon are you using?
For example
my system is 64 bit using sabayon 4.1 KDE (fully updated)
my backup system is 64 bit using sabayon 4.0 R1 (not yet updated)

Is 0145 hour here in Australia got try and get some sleep (what ever that is)
I'll check this post if I wakeup in the morning

What is "depmode"?

no issues here, we do test updates on virtual machines and some spare computers. My macbook is fine with 180.60 and latest kernel as well as other updates.

Did you perhaps mess with kernel versions and/or nvidia-drivers versions or did not update entropy (the package manager) lately?

Same thing happened to me. First of all the update broke grub and when I'd fixed that I had to use portage to change to the previous nvidia driver.
Edit: reported as issue 740

"broke grub" doesn't mean much.
I repeat, we installed nvidia-drivers and the rest of the updates but no issues about "missing nvidia module".
And by the way, 2 pages of discussion and NOT a single log snippet.

depmod - program to generate modules.dep and map files.

question 1:
what kernel were you running? 2.6.28 or 2.6.29?
because we have issued the nvidia-drivers update *only* for 2.6.29 at the moment. I am pushing the module for other kernels too now.
Take into account that nvidia-drivers is one of the apps that cannot have multiple versions installed for different kernels. Blame nvidia :)

Answer to question 1/
2.6.29. I am running a fully updated system (or was).
Sorry about the brief "broke grub" - I was in a hurry and a bit angry. Grub failed at loading level 2 - just a blank screen and continual reboot.
Tell me which logs you want and I'll post them.
