To emerge -e world/system or not

Postby benkong2 » Fri Dec 16, 2005 18:53

Lxnay,
I got the Live DVDISO installed and working on my Thinkpad T41 laptop. Now I want to update the entire system to KDE 3.5 gcc3.4 etc. An emerge -e system says 219 files need updating and an emerge -e world is...I can't count that far.

What is the best method to complete this task or is it even possible to do so?

Thanks for a great liveDVD and a great article on how to go from DVD to HD worked like a charm

I forgot about one last thing when I do a make menuconfig the terminal seems to have the wrong encoding or something. Instead of nice blue and white I have # signs as the border and other characters around the screen. What should be changed to correct this? I just wanted to look at the kernel config to see what was enabled. Main reason was the LiveDVD and HD install picked up the Minipci wireless card without a hitch. As a matter of fact it named it eth0 and did not get the built in eth nic card, which btw takes the eepro100 module, but a simple modprobe eepro100 and an update-modules fixed that.
