Blank startup

Hey. Sorry if this is something I should be able to do already, but I'm a newb to linux and even moreso to sabayon. Anyway, I installed 4.1 on my lenovo y530 and have noticed that the screen will stay black until about halfway through the startup (i.e. during the lenovo splash screen and when it gives me my boot options). This is not a terribly big problem except that I'm trying to install linux mint 7 on another partition to try it out and I can't boot into the disc (because I can't see the prompt). So...

1) Is there a way to boot directly from the disc without hitting f12 at the prompt?
2) How do I solve the blank screen issue?

1. Yes, change to boot from Optical drive in your BIOS (I don't like this because most of the time I forget to remove the live CD/DVD)
2. Not sure what you mean, if is your computer splash screen then check to see if you can deselect show splash screen in your BIOS

Also while checking the settings in your BIOS/CMOS make sure RAM or/and Hard disk test is disable (that is if your BIOS has these features) for more info refer to your motherboard manual, if you do not have the manual you should be able to download from lenovo
