I would venture a guess then and say it's video driver related. to get an x session started here is what I would try.
Code: Select all
eselect opengl set xorg-x11

check or edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
driver = "vesa"

then reboot. hopefully that should allow you to get an xsession up. If that works then it's jsut a matter of regular video card driver troubleshooting.
If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.

Remember to mark your thread [Solved] if your issue is fixed.

Before you do, best to backup your xorg.conf:
Code: Select all
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.somethingthatmakesitcleartoyouthatthisisabackup

Edit xorg.conf:
Code: Select all
nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Look for the section called 'Graphics device section', 'Section "Device"'.

After making changes, save with ctrl-X (the ^-symbol represents ctrl), hit Y, hit Enter, done.

Ow...you'll have to enter those commands as root, not as user...

OK I didn't know eselect kernel/opengl set would work with the names too, so try
Code: Select all
eselect kernel set linux-2.6.29-sabayon
(Assuming this is the kernel you want to load)
(Re)install graphics drivers, make sure uname -r gives the right kernel, of course make sure xorg.conf corresponds to the same graphics driver as your eselect opengl list does, then try again.
Not sure if this will help in any way, tbh I'm still a bit puzzled by your pc's refusal to answer to your eselect kernel list...

Please do NOT mark as solved as long as the problem persists, and once solved, mark it solved by *appending* [Solved] (verbatim, including brackets) to the subject of your first post, *not* by replacing it by "solved" :)
