"Input not supported"

Postby CJ Master » Sun May 24, 2009 21:17

Hello. :) When trying to use the live CD, it boots up ok, but as soon as it goes to the login splashscreen thing, my monitor blanks out and tells me "Input not supported." (My monitor, not sabayon.) Even when i press F4 and select a very safe resolution a the isolinux selection, it doesn't work. I think that Imput not supported generally means that the resolution isn't right, but I'm not completely sure.

I'm using an Acer Monitor X193W and its max resolution is 1400x900.

I also have an Acer monitor that supports a max. of 1440x900, but it's the AL1916W. What's your graphics card? Anyway, at boot press F5 and try appending the following boot codes:

Code: Select all
noddc res=1440x900 refresh=60

Are you entering res=1440x900 or res=1400x900? In your first post you wrote that the maximum resolution is 1400x900, but I believe your monitor's resolution is 1440x900. If you're entering res=1400x900 then it wouldn't work.

Also try each of the following:

Code: Select all
noddc res=1440x900 refresh=60 opengl=radeon

Code: Select all
noddc res=1440x900 refresh=60 opengl=radeonhd

Code: Select all
noddc res=1440x900 refresh=60 opengl=vesa

Your right, it is 1440x900. But it STILL DOESN'T WORK. :( I even tried safe mode. This is infuriating. I'm re-burning the image in case it burned wrong and that's why... but I doubt it.

I doubt it too. Here's another boot parameter you could try, both by itself and in combination with the earlier ones:

Code: Select all
acpi=off

No offense, but what would ACPI have to do with what Sabayon project on the screen.

A couple of other things to try, off the top of my head: a) try booting the LiveDVD in another PC, just to see if it works on that; b) have you got a LiveDVD or LiveCD from another distro to try and boot. Try something like System Rescue CD (which is worth burning anyway) and is Gentoo-based.

a) I don't have another computer to test it on, really. :(
b) I've used over 20 distros, and I've never encountered a problem like this >.<
