Upgrade from LiveCD/DVD?

Postby yourevilmonkey » Wed May 20, 2009 22:36

I installed 4.0. I wanted to upgrade the kernel and ect. to 4.1. I have the discs but I dont want to loose the games that come with 4.0. I have dial up so downloading is most likely out of the question. Is there anyway to upgrade to 4.1 and keep the games?

you don't have to do anything. if you follow the normal update routines. ie equo update you will have access to the same packages that 4.1 users have. just install what you want. if you want kde4.2 for instance just equo install kde-meta
If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.

so i can use the equo thing without internet? This is basically what im asking. Can I install the packages from 4.1 onto my 4.0 without an internet connection? Basically all I want to do is keep the 3D Games. I dont want to waste time downloading it through dial-up, especially mine since it averages out like 1kb/s. I have both live CD's; 4.0 and 4.1.

I too am new to Sabayon, however I have used many other linux distro's previously and there should be a way to add your 4.1 cd as a repository therefore allowing you to add the 4.1 packages without internet. But as I said as far as Sabayon goes I'm new but there should be some one here that can tell you how to do this............good luck.

Package Managers need internet

You can find the packages that entropy has installed in

Code: Select all
 /var/lib/entropy/packages/amd64/4

or
Code: Select all
 /var/lib/entropy/packages/x86/4

Just save the ones you want than put them in the same spot, than you don't have to redownload them.
