Burning disc image [Solved]

Hi,

This may seem a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere.

I downloaded the iso for the newest distro and burned it using magic iso, but it doesn't seem to boot.
I have tried other burning software but it won't recognise the full size of the disc. It thinks it is 300 mb.
I guess it is something to do with the squashfs file on the disc, but i have never come across this before, I read that it is a method of reading a live cd. Do i need to do anything to it of burning in windows? Cheers

The latest Sabayon linux 4.1 has about 1.9GB so I think(recommend) you have to download it again...

You should be able to burn it in Alcohol 120 or Nero without problems..

Hmm yeah I already have that, and i have nero, but when i try and burn it says the size of the sectors is wrong, and only burns a 300mb cd image even if i use a dvd, and then it won't boot. I'm a bit confused.

Ah nm downloaded it again and this one is the right size, must have been something wrong with the first one, or i doanloaded the wrong version or somnething

Ah might not be solved after all, the new image i burnt is now not showing up on the disc, strange

Not sure if nero is still causing issues wioth disc burning so use with caution.

If you downloaded using ftp or http / web browser it is a good idea to start the torrent download so that it registers say 1% about ie: it just need to create the iso file in the place / folder you wanted it to.

The stop the torrent and replace the 1% torrent iso file with the ftp / http /webbrowser iso file that should be complete.

There should be a useful option int he torrent program you use "md5 hash" or "hash recheck" or force recheck any of them will verify if the iso is complete.

Once you know the iso file is complete you should make sure you have a decent disc burning software, any of the free ones will do like ease dvd burner etc.

Disc burning for dvd's is best to be done at 4x speed een if your drive can do 50000 dvd burn speed and teh disc can do 100 speed somehow 4x dvd works everytime.

Next if still not working use virtualbox.org as it emulates a pc and you can boot using the iso or dvd and so would know if it works. If iso s good and dvd is bust then either update the software / firmware for the dvd drive, check the quality of the dvd's, dvd -rw or dvd + rw works best as it is better quality.

Then you should be fine.

If both works and your pc still does not want to boot after the boot menu of the dvd then you will have to add "cheat codes" by pressing F5 in the dvd boot menu and adding say noacpi nokvm and a few others.

Please check the release page for say 4.1 gnome o 4.1 kde and the needed specs for pc's and space minm. 20gb , when you have time.

Hey thanks for the help, I think its my dvd drive, when i first got it it wasn't working too well, then it worked fine for a while, now seems to not work well. Some burning softwares don't like it for some reason.

Neway I got the image burnt with an external drive, and installed, have a dual boot with XP.

However, the windows is on the second drive, a ata drive, and Sabayon is on the first SATA2 slot. Grub installed inself on the first one therefore and when i select in the boot options to boot from the linux drive, i get a grub error 16.

Does anyone have any idea what's happening. Before this I had debian, and had no probs with installing that, or booting or anything.

Any help much appreciated, cheers.

Oh yeah also my Linux drive seems to be showing up in Windows, although it is empty and I cant see free space etc. except in disc manager

Need output of:
"fdisk -l"
"blkid"
"cat /boot/grub/grub.conf"
and what partitions your sabayon, windows, ubuntu, storage, whatever are located on.
