play embedded .wmv files

Postby Five » Mon May 11, 2009 16:56

Hello :)
First post: I am a Linux noob, just feeling my way in..
Firstly, really liking your distro: Congratulations for such a good release.
Enjoying getting to know it.Sorry if this has been sorted before.
I cant play .wmv files off the web: always want to Dl and open Mplayer when I open them in a web page.

I have downloaded the .Iso for Sabayon 4.1, Installed, updated, using FF 3.0.1.0 as browser, uninstalled TOTEM and Totem plugin( _ I like Mplayer_ :) )
All else default so far.
There is no Windows Media player plugin present, and no .wmv file association in mplayer plugin that I can see. ??

.mpg and Quicktime open in Tab no problem
How do I get the .wmv files to open from web page
Wot did I do wrong ?
Wot do I do to fix?
Thanks
Five

Use plugin for Firefox called "mediaplayerconnectivity". I don't have any mplayer plugins at all, just that Firefox plugin and vlc..:)
Mplayer can be used too..

probably you should have to emerge mplayerplugin with the appropriate USE flags (the 'wmp' USE flag).
I recommend you to read the Gentoo Wiki before doing it.

http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/Mplayerplug-in

Emerge is a very complicated (but powerful) tool, so it is up to you to decide wether to use it or not,
I personally use Totem for streaming, and it works flawlessly.

If you will use emerge, remember to run:
Code: Select all
equo database gentoosync

to let entropy know what emerge did.

Also might be worth reading through mplayerplug-in FAQ page on the official Web site.
