2 Screens with ATI4850 & Compiz

Postby ApoBicz » Mon May 11, 2009 12:30

first of all - hi to all ;)

im new to on this board and a newbie with linux ! so some days ago i installed sabayon 4.1 with gnome & compiz. so i like this os very much !!! great work !!

but i got one problem with the x-server.

i have an ati4850 with 2 tft screens and wanne use them both as one big screen. a 22" packard bell and a 16" samsung sync master. the 22" should run with 1680x1050 60hz and the 16" should run with 1024x768 75hz.

till now only the 22" runs in 1680x1050 60hz. but i've to set it up at every startup in the ati-center manually. without setting it up manually it runs only in 1024x768. the 22" is shown as monitor number 2 and the 16" as number 1 in the ati-center.

how could i set it up to my setting without setting it up at every startup ???

here is my xorg.conf:

Code: Select all
aticonfig --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=right

try running that, you may have to create a little script that runs at startup. Also try running ATI control panel as root user.

I am not an ATI user but seeing as the ati control center is not saving the config would mean to me that it does not have permissions to do so. As Thev00d00 says try running as root. I would also look to see if there is a "save config to xorg file" button or menu option somewhere.

Please keep in mind, people will help as they are able to. Some problems may require a little research. Sometimes other people have been waiting for an answer longer than you have and so take priority. Acting like a tool is not going to speed things up. In the mean time perhaps you might think about searching for linux ati dual screen setup; I am sure you would find a lot of configs and threads about it. You might just learn something.
If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.

Remember to mark your thread [Solved] if your issue is fixed.
