Kde help center: no documentaion ? [Solved]

Postby Ric » Wed May 06, 2009 23:16

I can't find anything in the help center to fetch the documatanions.
How can I install the docs for KDE 4.2 ?

This is sounding like a bug, might want to file a bug report on this or is there an option to build the files?

There is an option to build a search index, it succesfully installs 0 bytes of data :?

The KDE help center does have a bug report wizard, but a quick search there doesn't shows that others don't have a complete lack of docs such as this. I notice that make.conf didn't have 'doc' in the USE flags, but I would think The KDE help center should just fetch the latest vesions at the push of a button.

Should I file a bug to SL, or to KDE ?

kde was build without documentation.
I could build it with +doc

//edit: will be done for kde 4.2.3

Ok in addition to my previous post.
KDE 4.2.3 is now hitting entropy and will be available shortly.

Since we now added all documentation the install size of the KDE Desktop has grown allot.
kdelibs package grown from 12.2MB to a 268MB tarball
So install size is going from 50MB to 630MB for only kdelibs...

So be sure that you have enough space available when you are going to update kde.

I guess that in a near future will find a better approach to this. Maybe in terms of splitting up documentation in packages.

The KDE documentation is available online (http://docs.kde.org/), and some people may not want it installed. Perhaps, if it is not too much trouble, you could have two selectable versions: one with, and one without, documentation?

looks like its only kdelibs that has grown this phat.

As we speak i'm checking the diff (locally) on kdelibs with -doc.
Gentoo kde herd added looking into this also to their todo.

I might push out a slimmed down kdelibs very shortly afterall..

Ok rebuilding kdelibs with -doc and this all will be a non isssue in about 30 minutes.
The manual is still intact without them anyway.
