Netgear WN111 USB Wireless Adapter [Marvell wifi ?] [Solved]

Postby k1d1c4ru5 » Fri May 08, 2009 3:52

Hello everyone,

I am brand new to Sabayon, and I'm loving it! :D However, I can't get my new Netgear WN111 to be recognized. I used to use Ubuntu, and I've had to use ndiswrapper before, but I usually used a GUI and had a TON of documentation to work with. So, would someone out there be able to help me, please?

So far I have installed ndiswrapper with:

su
equo install ndiswrapper

That's pretty much it, heheh.

Thank you so much for your time!

Copied form a german website:
Code: Select all
    linux-0wje:/home/hans # ndiswrapper -l
    netmw245 : driver installed
            device (0846:9000) present
    linux-0wje:/home/hans #

Code: Select all
Bus 005 Device 010: ID 0846:9000 NetGear, Inc. WN111(v1) RangeMax Next Wireless [Marvell TopDog]

Seems like you have to get the marvell / apple wireless driver working.

Get Wolfdens firefox plugin and search the forums or the wiki / how-to / faq guide top right of this page for the marvel drivers / how-to.

Ndiswrapper check one of the top messages in networking part of the forums as it should still ahve the guide there then you just need the windows .inf driver if the above does not get it working.

Someone else will post more info as well.

You have to download driver for your wifi adapter, but not an exe file, just driver_name.inf!!
Open terminal and create a folder, for example "Netgear".
Code: Select all
su
mkdir /home/user_name/Netgear

then copy your driver_name.inf(for XP should be ok) into it..
then change a directory..
Code: Select all
cd /home/user_name/Netgear

install the driver..
Code: Select all
ndiswrapper -i driver_name.inf

then.
Code: Select all
ndiswrapper -l

there should be something like this..
Sabayon user # ndiswrapper -l
driver_name : driver installed
device (14E4:4318) present
then..
Code: Select all
gedit /etc/modules

type "ndiswrapper" at the end of the text to load the ndiswrapper modul on boot...
That way I installed WIFI Broadcom BCM4318 in Ubuntu but I suppose it should be the same or similar technique in Sabayon..:)

Alright, thank you!

I did as you said, and then did modprobe ndiswrapper. I'm in business!

Awesome job.

Just to clarify, this is the WN111v2 and the driver (which can be found through Google) is called arusb_xp.inf

Thanks again. Sabayon rocks.
