Hello, can I start by saying I'm new here (this is my first post) so hiya to all Sabayon users and admin's I'm not trolling but shouldn't these check's be a part of the update script??? btw I will volunteer to put these into a script if you like but only if you distribute the script with official Sabayon for all new updates (making it easier for end-users to update

This guide was very helpful and helped me avoid the problems I had a month ago upgrading my work desktop, however I had new problems which took me longer to figure out that they should have.

The new kernel entry's in /boot/grub/menu.lst were pointed at the second harddrive installed in my system instead of hd(0,0) it was hd(1,0). This took me awhile to realize and probably would have taken longer if the second harddrive was not partitioned with xfs.

So my checklist before I reboot includes scrutinizing grub, raising the default timeout (I lower it on stable systems to speed boot), setting the new kernel to be the default and checking that the kernel entry's are sane.

you would want to use equo libtest and equo deptest, not revdep if you are using entropy

After doing a clean install, when I got to
Code: Select all
eselect kernel list

It returned none found (!)

so after asking online i did
Code: Select all
equo install linux-sabayon

once it finished installing the kernel showed up in the kernel list, i rebooted and all was good

I've added to the wiki a Known Issues page as another source. We will try and keep the wiki page updated. The link for it is on the main page.http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=Main_Page

Why don't you remove kernel from the repository? I don't like it when the kernel is installed by a package manager, I prefer to do it myself, like the good old days. And if it causes so much confusion to modules/drivers, then I say it's no good.

^Modules normally have to be rebuilt when you recompile a new version of the kernel, even when you do it yourself rather than using a package manager, ergo new pre-built versions of the relevant modules have to be installed when you install a prebuilt kernel using Entropy. There's nothing wrong with having the kernel in the package manager. In fact, in the case of Entropy (as distinct from Portage), the whole point of having a pre-built kernel in the Entropy repository is so that the user does not have to compile the kernel. And as far as Portage is concerned, tools like eselect, genkernel and module-rebuild make compiling a new kernel easier, not more difficult; that's why they were created by the Gentoo developers in the first place.

I was wondering, if this needs to be done on 4.2?
