All right.... I finally got SOMETHING to work right, but still have no GUI support..... Tried every cheat code that I could find that seemed to apply to me, to no avail... BUT did get sabutil working... I've also tried both the .27 kernel and the .29 kernel with updated ati drivers (using equo install ati-drivers) and successfully set opengl to ati (using eselect opengl set ati) here's the information you guys need to help me out...

you need to match your kernel stuff up

your booting .27, but eselect is set to .29

use eselect kernel set 1

than install the ati-drivers for .27

equo install x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.552-r11#2.6.27-sabayon

you have to keep these in sync at all times, all modules/drivers must match kernel version

Thanks Wolfden, I'll try that. Thought I had been installing the right drivers with the correct kernel. I'll let you know IF I get it running.

Well... Thanks Wolfden for helping me get into the GUI... FINALLY!!! YAY... However it doesn't seem to be running quite right (ran better in live cd mode, when I got that to work.. once). A couple things, How do I tell if it is actually using my graphics cards (and not cpu software rendering), and none of my windows have maximize, minimize or close buttons in the upper left corner. It did when I first got it running, then set the acceleration to enhanced and got Compiz running.. then all the buttons went away...hmmmmm.... Still having problems w/ sound.. but I'll post it in the correct forum... :)

sounds like a window manager issue - try changing it? Right click on the blue icon in the systray and try different ones

What I like to tell new people having vid issues when it worked fine off the livedvd, reboot the livedvd back up and copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file from the livedvd over to your harddrive. Make sure you backup your original one first by renaming it xorg.bak incase you need to restore it. That way you will know your xorg.conf file is setup properly.

Unfortunately.... the live dvd only ran once for me.... and it was a PITA to get it to do that... even with the same cheat codes, it never ran again... I'll try changing window managers next... Im in Vista now as seemingly I cannot post to the forum in Sabayon :(

Ok... back in Sabayon... seems to be a problem with the Compiz window manager, utilizing Kwin now, and got the buttons back, but seems like all the goodies went away :(

than u need to check the settings in xorg.conf

I'm not a ati user so I don't know what settings u all need with your card, that is why I suggest booting the livedvd up to get it's xorg.conf file. Can try posting your xorg.conf file and maybe someone can suggest
