Sabayon 4.1 on eee pc 1000he? [Solved]

Postby udutronik » Tue Apr 14, 2009 1:48

Hello,

I am pretty please to see that sabayon has release a gnome focused spin.

I was wondering if it could run on an eee-pc? I have the 1000he

do we need custom kernel? how does it rate as far as hardware is concerned?

thanks!

Ok, so I did install sabayon 4.1 on my eee pc 1000he

So far, I've had one problem, at boot :

once I've selected sabayon from grub menu, I get this message

undefined video mode number : 317

If I press "space" Sabayon does boot (no graphical boot though before login screen)

What can I do here?

take a look at your grub.conf and your boot line should contain a vga= you need to set that.

Not sure what res you use but match the res with the vga and edit the grub.conf
640x480 - 785
800x600 - 788
1024x768 - 791
1152x864 - 355
1280x1024 - 794
1600x1200 - 798

Thanks a lot for your help...

Now I dont want to mess with my grub.conf before being sure of what I am doing

The resolution for eee pc 1000he is 1024x600

i have seen references for other distros telling that the vga=0x315 should solve this.
But as far as gentoo is concerned, i have seen some (unclear) reference to vga=915

What should I put there?

Question : if I set boot resolution to other than the one I want, will it interfere with resolution when logged in?

In other words : as of now, I still havent figured what would be the vga setting in grub for 1024x600

so : if I set grub to boot in 800x600

1) will I finally have graphical boot?
2) will gnome log in in 1024x600?

Thanks!

I set vga = normal and i'm not asked question but still no graphical boot

Two questions remain

1) what code should I put in grub for vga=1024x600

OR

2) Should I just set grub to boot in, lets say 800x600 (if it has no impact on X resolution)?

Again, thanks to all that try to help a newbie that really wants to love Sabayon :D
